40th Anniversary
During the weekend of June 25 and 26, 2016, The Association France-Grande Bretagne, Quercy, celebrated 40 years since the inauguration of our branch, centred in Cahors. Blessed by glorious sunshine, the two days were devoted to cementing friendships and having fun with members of various nationalities.
Durant le weekend du 25 et 26 juin 2016, l’Association France-Grande Bretagne- Quercy, a célébré les 40 ans depuis l’inauguration de notre section, située à Cahors. Baignées par un magnifique soleil, les deux journées ont été consacrées à renforcer les amitiés et à s’amuser entre adhérents de différentes nationalités.

Several months in the planning, the weekend was a huge success. At the beginning of Saturday afternoon our well known, bilingual guide Sue Baxter, conducted a walking tour of 'The Hidden Face of Old Cahors ? Courtyards and Staircases. Such a feast of history and architecture.
Avec plusieurs mois de préparation, le weekend a été un immense succès. Au début de l’après midi notre fameuse guide bilingue Sue Baxter, a conduit une visite à pied à travers « La Face Cachée du Vieux Cahors ? » Cours et Escaliers. Un si beau festin d’histoire et d’architecture.

This was followed by the Plenary Meeting, the Official part of the proceedings. Held at the Foyer Lamourous, the Delegate General of F-GB France, M. Gerard Hocmard, and the Maire of Cahors, Jean-Marc Vayssouze-Faure, said a few words each.
Suivie de l’Assemblée Plénière, la partie officielle du déroulement des évènements. Tenue au Foyer Lamourous, le Délégué Général de F-GB France, M. Gerard Hocmard, et le Maire de Cahors, Jean-Marc Vayssouze-Faure, ont dit quelques mots chacun.

This was followed by the four former Presidents of the Quercy Branch giving a brief summary of their time and events whilst in office; namely Elizabeth Espitalié, the first president and founder of Quercy sector, then Norman Thompson, Marjorie Smith and Charles Eugster. The proceedings were presided over by the current, and first French President, M. Michel Bellanger, and rounded off with an aperitif and amuses bouches.
Ensuite les quatre anciens Présidents de la section Quercy ont offert un bref résumé des moments et évènements de leur mandat, à savoir Elizabeth Espitalié, la première présidente et fondatrice de la section Quercy, puis Norman Thompson, Marjorie Smith et Charles Eugster. Le déroulement était présidé par l’actuel et premier Président français, M. Michel Bellanger, et s’est terminée avec un apéritif et des amuse- bouches.

Saturday evening saw more than 90 members enjoying a Soirée Festive at the Salle des Fetes, Mercues, with a meal prepared by Le Coté Sud Restaurant of Cahors. Entertainment was provided by Y'A d'la Voix. A thoroughly enjoyable evening which had many members on the dance floor.
Le Samedi soir a vu plus de 90 membres, apprécier une Soirée Festive à la Salle des Fêtes de Mercuès, avec un repas préparé par Le Restaurant Coté Sud de Cahors. Le spectacle était assuré par Y'A d'la Voix. Une soirée vraiment divertissante avec de nombreux membres sur la piste de danse.

Sunday lunchtime 62 members were back in Mercues enjoying Fish and Chips cooked on site by Tony Hill of Cod-en-Bleue then it was down to the river Lot in Cahors for a Crosière du Lot. English Tea and pastries were served on board giving the feeling of an afternoon tea party afloat. A memorable and very successful weekend. Can't wait for our 50th celebrations!
Dimanche à l’heure du déjeuner 62 membres étaient de retour à Mercuès appréciant un Fish and Chips cuisiné sur place par Tony Hill du Cod-en-Bleue, puis c’était la descente vers la rivière le Lot à Cahors pour une Croisière sur le Lot. Du thé anglais et des pâtisseries furent servies à bord donnant le sentiment d’un « tea party » flottant. Un mémorable et très réussi weekend. Difficile d’attendre pour les célébrations des 50ans!
